Even before ordering the Babylon 5 season 1 DVD box from Amazon.de I had read about the error in the first printing (or whatever it is with DVDs) of the R2 box: episode And the Sky Full of Stars on disc 2 has the aspect ratio wrong in several scenes. And there was me thinking, this was way back in 2003 and Warner provided a fixed disc: surely they no longer sell the boxes unfixed?

Guess again. Got the box a few months ago, reached the said episode recently and couldn’t help but notice the horrible aspect ratio problem. Then there’s me thinking, the solution was provided way back in 2003, is it still valid? Meaning, do they still have the fixed discs and how do they go about delivering them nowadays?

I e-mailed both the Warner German branch and Amazon.de yesterday. The Amazon.de customer support answered almost immediately and today I got a confirmation e-mail that they’ve shipped my “order”. I’m hoping to get only a fixed version of the problem disc because I have to send back the problem product. But they didn’t demand it sent first, which is very nice.

For reference, there’s a handy Finnish page that details all known problems with the B5 DVDs (R1 and R2): Babylon 5:n DVD-FAQ. I couldn’t find the info in English in such a compact form but if you need it, check out forum discussions and such (read: use Google) and you’ll surely bump into the info.
